Placing the gold onto the red clay The red clay symbolises the earth and the gold symbolises the presence of God.
The red clay is the base for the Gold leaf. Red symbolises the Earth. The layers of clay are then applied to cushion the gold leaf.
The icon board is covered with gesso, this is symbolic of the stone rolled in front of Christ's tomb the wood is covered with a piece of material this represents the shroud of Christ
The design for the icon The wood for this icon is a recycled pew from the Parish Church of St Helier
